Free admission, free guided tours of the casemates with the sponsoring association, further offers: - maritime book market - visitors' café - information stand of the Friends' Association
The historical casemates in the Sternschanze on the island of Dänholm, which are otherwise not open to the public, are the focus of the action day. Casemates are brick-built shelters in fortress ramparts that were once intended to protect the garrison as well as ammunition and powder supplies from enemy artillery fire. They were connected to the gun and rifle emplacements via so-called poternen, i.e. brick corridors. The facilities on the island of Dänholm were built in the Prussian era after 1815 and were extended in several construction phases until shortly after 1867. In future, the main casemate in the Sternschanze is to be made permanently accessible to visitors as part of the Naval Museum following renovation work.
The Förderverein Marinemuseum Dänholm e.V. offers exclusive guided tours for small groups of up to ten people on Museum Day only. The tours last around 45 minutes and start at 10.00, 11.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.00 and 16.00.
In addition, the Friends of Dänholm Island invite you to a maritime book market, the visitor café and an information stand.
