Wolfram Schubert will read from his autobiography, *Ich will. Erinnerungen*, on July 9, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at the Neubrandenburg Art Collection. Moderator: Matthias Wolf
The painter, draftsman, and graphic artist Wolfram Schubert is one of the best-known artists in Neubrandenburg and the Mecklenburg Lake District. From his autobiography, published in 2019, *Ich will. Erinnerungen* (I Want. Memories), the artist—who is celebrating his 100th birthday this year—will read on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the Kabinettausstellung gallery of the Neubrandenburg Art Collection. The reading and the subsequent artist talk will be moderated by Matthias Wolf.
Schubert is known nationwide primarily for his works conveying patriotic messages, such as the frescoes “Struggle and Victory of the Working Class” (1969) in Neubrandenburg City Hall and the painting “Bread for All,” created in 1975 for the gallery of the Palace of the Republic. In addition, he created numerous works for public spaces, including the abstract gable mosaics on the prefabricated buildings in Neubrandenburg, which are now listed as historical monuments. As a cultural official in the GDR, he served as an influential mediator between cultural policy directives and the needs of a free artistic scene in Neubrandenburg. His influence was also decisive in the founding of the art collection in 1982. In addition, he created works with private themes: sensitive portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and depictions of animals.
The Neubrandenburg Art Collection holds a large collection of approximately 100 works by Schubert, encompassing both political narratives and personal explorations, and is dedicating a small-scale exhibition to the artist in the “IM HIER IM JETZT” series in collaboration with the MSE Visual Arts Archive.
