Gipsy I Swing I Jazz

In the early 2000s, the paths of guitarist Karl-Heinz Vogel and violinist Thomas Prokein crossed and both recognized their shared love for the "gypsy jazz" of the "Quintette du Hot Club de France". They had their first sessions together and both musicians soon realized that they had a lot in common musically. In order to be even closer to the original, the line-up was completed by guitarist Klaus Jacob and bassist Hendrik Bertram. What was initially just an idea soon developed into a new band and in 2002 the "Hot Club d'Allemagne" was founded.
Since then, the Leipzig swing band has continued to develop. While the initial focus was on interpreting the repertoire of the great musical role models, the musicians soon found ways to develop this tradition further and revitalize it with their own compositions. The public presence was also intensified over time. For example, the "Hot Club d'Allemagne" performed several times at the MDR Kultur-Café and the Leipzig Opera Ball. A particular highlight was their participation in "Late Night Jazz" as part of the Dresden concert series "Jazz in der Semperoper" in 2004. Georg Prokein joined the band as bassist in November 2004.
Since 2017, Gunter Pasler on double bass and Franziskus Sparsbrod on guitar have been active members of the new rhythm section and give the band the necessary drive.
The "Hot Club d'Allemagne" wants to keep the legacy of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli alive in the future as well, while breaking new musical ground themselves and sharing their joy of playing with a wide audience.
To this day, the Hot Club is the swing band in Leipzig when it comes to gypsy jazz.
