The HanseSail An-Bagger-Cup is one of the largest mixed beach volleyball tournaments in northern Germany and will take place for the 54th time in 2026. Around 60 teams from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the surrounding federal states will play for the state championship title and qualification for the German Championships on August 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. each day.
Beach volleyball, summer and a maritime atmosphere - the HanseSail An-Bagger-Cup has been one of the sporting highlights of the Hanse Sail in Rostock for decades. On August 8 and 9, 2026, the traditional mixed beach volleyball tournament will take place for the 54th time, starting at 9:00 a.m. on both days. On Saturday, the matches will run until around 19:00 before the final matches are played on Sunday at around 16:00.
Around 60 mixed teams from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the surrounding federal states will compete against each other at the tournament. After a preliminary round, the best teams qualify for the final round, which is played in two performance categories. This means that both ambitious recreational players and performance-oriented teams get their money's worth. In addition to exciting matches, there is also prize money at stake.
The tournament has a special sporting significance: the HanseSail An-Bagger-Cup is also the mixed state championship of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The winning team not only secures the state championship title, but also qualifies for the German Championships.
The tournament is organized by the Rostock association activebeach e.V., which is dedicated to promoting beach volleyball in Rostock and the surrounding area. The association has been organizing tournaments and events for many years and is involved in both popular sports and performance-oriented beach volleyball.
In addition to the main tournament, the weekend offers further beach volleyball highlights: On Saturday, the 54th MUMien Cup - a tournament for senior players in various age groups - will take place at the same time. On Sunday, young beach volleyball players aged between 10 and 14 will compete against each other in the junior tournament of the "Stadtwerke Active Kids Series". The tournament is very popular: last year, 20 teams took part.
Against the maritime backdrop of the Hanse Sail, the HanseSail An-Bagger-Cup combines top-class beach volleyball with summer, the beach and a sporty atmosphere. Players from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the surrounding federal states ensure exciting matches and a varied tournament weekend for participants and spectators every year.
