Reading & Discussion | Moderation: Ulrika Rinke (Literaturhaus Rostock)
When Jana moves to the country with her family, she quickly realizes that different rules apply here. Her charismatic neighbor Karolin has dedicated herself entirely to the role of housewife and mother. The more time Jana spends with Karolin, the more she realizes that she is ultra-conservative in a very contemporary way - she exemplifies closeness to nature in Instagram reels, shares cooking and baking recipes and propagates the subjugation of women to men.
Jana, herself pregnant with her third child, has quit her agency job in the city. The fact that she did this without consulting Karo and that her partner's salary is now supposed to be enough for the family leads to tensions in the partnership, while Jana tries to defend herself against the fascination that emanates from Karo. She keeps catching herself with the disturbing thought that she envies Karolin's life. And feels attracted to the world she lives in.
