Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival of the German-Japanese Society of Rostock
Rostock will once again become a place of Japanese spring culture this year: On May 3, 2026 from 12 noon to 5 p.m., the German-Japanese Society Mecklenburg-Vorpommern zu Rostock e.V. invites you to the traditional Hanami - the Japanese cherry blossom festival - in the IGA Park.
A varied program awaits visitors at the Japanese Pavilion. Hanami, literally "looking at blossoms", is an important spring ritual in Japan and stands for the beauty and transience of life - a feeling that can also be felt in Rostock on this day.
The festival offers a varied program for the whole family: demonstrations of Japanese martial arts, Go games, bonsai presentations and creative courses invite visitors to discover and participate. The imaginative characters of the cosplayers will once again enrich our festival with figures from the world of manga, anime or computer games and the taiko drummers will provide impressive acoustics.
Modern haikus will be read in the pavilion itself and there will be graphic novels, handmade items, sweets and other Japanese specialties at the small stalls around the garden.
From 5 pm, the Bailtic Anime & Nerd Society e.V. will take over the festival with karaoke.
We look forward to inspiring many people for Japanese culture and creating a festival of encounters for old and new Japan fans.
