Photography and Painting

Burkhard Merchel
"I've been taking photographs since I was very young, with shorter and longer breaks for family and professional reasons.
Since I retired from working life, I have intensified this hobby and it has become an important part of my free time.
Photography has also developed rapidly and given me endless opportunities for further development.
Landscape photography was, is and remains a central category.
My main role models are Caspar David Friedrich, van Gogh, Turner and others.
The connection between painters and photography arises quite automatically.
I see my photography as an aesthetic extension of everyday perception and thus an opportunity to rediscover the familiar.
My pictures shown here are intended to be proof of this."
Hans-Jürgen Sädtler was an art teacher at the grammar school in Kühlungsborn, was principal in Bad Doberan and has been chairman of the board of the art association in Kühlungsborn for many years. For his 75th birthday, he is exhibiting oil paintings and drawings.
His art is local and cosmopolitan.
His life's work illustrates his search for different forms of expression and content. From hand drawings to lithographs to colored pastels, he develops the design of the surface in abstraction and realism. Acrylic and oil paintings show the combination of these subjects in manageable picture formats.
As a "decathlete" of art and culture, he is also an enthusiastic songwriter, singer and poet.
