He is a classic showmaker. A little shifty, greasy, he sits at the bar, slightly hunched over, his thinning hair combed over his half bald head. He cracks jokes, makes punch lines, recites movie quotes. He observes closely, is never at a loss for an answer and yet is deeply lonely, vulnerable, a lost soul. It is March 31, 1943 and the musical "Oklahoma!" has just premiered. has just premiered, the first play created by Larry's former partner, Richard Rogers. Even before the final applause, Larry sneaks out of the auditorium into the bar "Sardi's" full of contempt for the superficiality of the musical. This man, who wrote such ingenious lyrics as "My Funny Valentine" and "Blue Moon", is not exactly a likeable character.
We can't wait to see what Restaurant Wollenberg will come up with to conjure up the taste of the 1940s in the USA on the plates of its guests.
