"Good, better, banjo"
In the early days of ragtime, pre-jazz and hot jazz, i.e. between 1890 and 1930, banjo/piano duos were a popular and typical sound.
This special harmony has long since become a forgotten musical art form.
Götz Alsmann, doctor of musicology, entainer, musical instrumentalist, presenter, interlectic and likeable and old-school presenter with pinstripes, pocket square and quiff, loves jazz. In this concert, he meets the multi-award-winning American jazz pianist Chris Hopkins, and for this duo evening Alsmann brings out an instrument from his large domestic collection that finds its way into concert life far too rarely: the banjo. Together, the two perform the originally African plucked instrument to great effect and show not only what the banjo can do, but also what jazz can do!
Götz Alsmann draws on his collection of historical banjos built between 1902 and 1925.
