277 Years of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe — modern and creative ideas on the life and work of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe — we say: Happy Birthday,

Although Goethe’s father was opposed to card games and consistently discouraged him from playing them, Goethe learned to play various games in different social circles. In the 18th century, Piquet, L’Hombre, Pharao, and Whist were the most popular pastimes among social circles. Goethe played these games at princely courts and in salons. He particularly recommended them to “young people,” as these parlour games fostered concentration. Come to our game night and find out whether it’s all about winning or losing—or chance and fate? In addition to the old-fashioned games, there will also be modern games to choose from!
