Book presentation & discussion | Moderation: Ulrika Rinke (Literaturhaus Rostock)

Anyone looking at German society today might think that it is a country full of drama , conflict and division. Is that really true? Or is this impression politically generated and reinforced by the media? Gilda Sahebi exposes the narrative of division as a lie, and even more so as an instrument of power by authoritarian forces. This applies to debates about social benefits, migration, gender and wokeness, war and peace, and coronavirus.
Studies repeatedly show that we are more united than we are divided: people are much more often satisfied in their own lives; they help and support each other, seek connection, not hatred.
Where does the search for connection get lost on a social level? And: What can we do to prevent the narrative of division from taking hold in our own lives? Together we will look for answers to one of the most pressing questions of our time.

Gilda Sahebi is a doctor and political scientist. She works as a freelance journalist specializing in racism, women's rights, the Middle East and science and writes for "taz" and "Spiegel", among others. Medium Magazine named her Political Journalist of the Year in 2022. She has published "'Our sword is love'. The feminist revolt in Iran" and "Wie wir uns Rassismus beibringen. An analysis of German debates".
