Hands-on mill technology, fascinating history, and a varied program for the whole family
On Pentecost Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the historic mill in Kröpelin invites you to German Mill Day. Visitors can look forward to a varied day centered around Kröpelin’s extraordinary “submersible mill.” Admission is free.
Naturally, the mill itself will take center stage on this day. Through tours and guided walks, guests can explore the historic structure—and even climb all the way up to the top of the mill. There’s plenty to learn about the fascinating milling technology, the history of the Kröpelin Mill, and the Käding family of millers, whose legacy is closely tied to the mill. The current exhibition is also open to visitors.
How does a mill actually work? How was grain ground in the past? And how does a grain of cereal ultimately become flour? Answers to these and many other questions are vividly presented on site. Those who don’t just want to watch can get hands-on: at the Römermühle, visitors can try their hand at grinding grain.
But German Mill Day is not just about imparting knowledge; above all, it’s an opportunity to spend quality time together. Families, friends, Kröpelin residents, and visitors are warmly invited to chat with one another, enjoy the special atmosphere at the mill, and have a wonderful Pentecost Monday.
There’s a colorful entertainment program for young and old alike. A hands-on circus invites you to get involved and try something new. A ventriloquist and his puppets will provide entertainment and plenty of surprises. The cover and party band OMB Duo will be on hand to set the musical mood.
Of course, refreshments will be available. With coffee and cake, bratwurst, and a variety of drinks, you can relax and enjoy yourself around the mill.
Important note regarding travel:
There is no parking available directly at the mill. Visitors are therefore asked to use the large parking lot in Kröpelin on Rostocker Straße.
