with works by J.S. Bach, M. Castelnuvo-Tedesco, A. Piazzolla, film music and original marimba compositions

Described as "magnetic" and "impressive" (Houston Chronicle), marimbist Fumito Nunoya is one of the leading international performers on this rare and versatile instrument. "Fumito Nunoya has mastered the art of making his marimba literally sing", is how "Online Musik Magazin" praised the Japanese artist's expressive, poetic and concise style. In addition to commissioned compositions and world premieres of numerous new works for marimba, Nunoya repeatedly creates unique programs, including adaptations of classical music by Bach and Piazzolla, but also film music or popular songs, for which he is celebrated by audiences, critics and the media. Born in the Akita region of Japan, Fumito Nunoya currently lives in Germany.

In 2019, Fumito Nunoya released his fifth album "Concertos on Marimba" on Oehms Classics, which was awarded 5 stars by BBC Music Magazine and the "Gouden Label" by "Klassiek Centraal" from Belgium. His first album "Red Dragonfly" was highlighted as a "monumental CD" (Percussive Notes) and as an example of artistic music creation at the highest level (Percussive Arts Society Florida Chapter). In 2016, Fumito Nunoya released the albums "Piazzolla on Marimba" and "Classics on Marimba" on Oehms Classics, which received the highest honor from "Record Geijutsu" in Japan. The legendary jazz vibraphonist Gary Burton describes Nunoya's Piazzolla performance as "great tango interpretation and excellent technique." In 2022, Fumito Nunoya released the album "Fusions and Fantasies" with pianist Benyamin Nuss on Mons Records.

Fumito Nunoya has performed as a concert soloist with numerous orchestras worldwide, including the Houston Symphony and Eastern Connecticut Symphony (USA), Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra and Atorion Chamber Orchestra (Japan), OWL Kammerphilharmonie Minden and Bartholdy-Ensemble Rheinfelden (Germany), Di Repercussio Ensemble percussioni dell'Istituto Peri (Italy). He has also performed numerous solo concerts in the USA, Europe, China and Japan, including Marimba Weekend (Netherlands), Zeltsman Marimba Festival (USA), Keiko Abe Lausanne International Marimba Academy (Switzerland), Southern California Percussion Ensemble Festival (USA), Central Japan Percussion Festival and Fukui Marimba Seminar (Japan). He has performed several times live on WGBH radio on "Classics in the Morning", hosted by Cathy Fuller from Boston (USA).

Fumito Nunoya received considerable international attention when he won third prize at the 3rd World Marimba Competition. He has been awarded numerous other top prizes at national and international marimba competitions, including first prize at the "Ima Hogg Young Artists Competition" in the USA, first prize at the "3rd Libertango International Competition" in Italy and second prize at the "Percussive Arts Society International Marimba Competition" in the USA.

In 2009, Fumito Nunoya took up a guest professorship for marimba at the Detmold University of Music. He still teaches there today as a lecturer at one of the few music academies in Europe where it is possible to take a concert exam with the marimba. Fumito Nunoya is an artistic director of the marimbists' association "Marimba Festiva e. V.". He is an Adams Marimba Artist and sightseeing ambassador of the Japanese city of Odate, his home country.
