The film follows the Elbe River from its source in the Giant Mountains to its mouth at the North Sea. Instead of postcard views, it shows places you don’t usually get to see: quarries, steel mills, giant container ships, and military exercises. A film about transience and recurrence, about the power of water and the limits of human intervention—an essayistic cinematic experience that views the Elbe as a mirror of an entire century.
