LIFE IS NO WALK IN THE PARK • Humorous Art by Mario Lars
Under the motto, “Life Isn’t a Walk in the Park,” the humorous art of the widely known cartoonist Mario Lars will be on display starting November 14. In over 100 drawings, the artist’s ironic perspective has visitors laughing heartily at the everyday little problems and pitfalls that everyone stumbles into from time to time. As always with Mario Lars, his focus is sharply tuned to the endearing problems of couples, but the cartoonist also turns his keen eye and sharp pen to the animal kingdom, world events, and the family hustle and bustle of Christmas. At the Kulturforum, Mario Lars is now exhibiting not only his cartoons—which he now draws on the computer—but also several works painted on canvas, which are, of course, delightfully silly or curiously ironic.
Mario Lars was born in Hagenow in 1964 and has worked in many professions; for the longest time, however, he served as department head for layout, graphics, and photography at the Schweriner Volkszeitung. He has been drawing cartoons as a freelancer since 2014. He has been honored with prestigious caricature awards. Mario Lars’s work can be found in numerous newspapers and magazines from Vorpommern to Bavaria, in a number of books, and as animations on television.
The exhibition runs through January 24, 2027. Admission is €5 (reduced: €3). Children and teens up to age 18 are admitted free. An annual pass for all exhibitions at the Kulturforum costs €25.
