Grand Ducal Mecklenburg court purveyors and court craftsmen in the 19th and 20th centuries
Crowned merchants. Grand Ducal Mecklenburg court purveyors and court craftsmen in the 19th and 20th centuries
The capital and royal seat of Schwerin was the political and social center of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and was accordingly also the center of the companies awarded a court patent. The court title and grand ducal coat of arms promised customers the highest quality and excellence - after all, the Grand Duke also bought here - and were correspondingly attractive for companies. This network of "crowned merchants" was not limited to Schwerin and Mecklenburg alone; it extended across much of Europe. The special exhibition of the museums of the State capital Schwerin in the Kleine Galerie is dedicated to this diverse topic of Schwerin's history, which on the one hand combines economic, cultural, social, local and global history and on the other hand has been preserved in the city's business world to this day.
Exhibition period: 26.2.2026 to 12.4.2026
