Operetta by Carl Zeller / In German language
With unforgettable catchy tunes such as Schenkt man sich Rosen in Tirol, Ich bin die Christel von der Post or Wie mein Ahn'l zwanzig Jahr, Carl Zeller's Der Vogelhändler is back on the Volkstheater stage. Staged by in-house director Rainer Holzapfel for the Volkstheater summer in Halle 207, this comedy with its lively melodies is now coming to the Grosses Haus.
Der Vogelhändler was first performed in Vienna, but is originally set in the Palatinate, where the announced visit of the Elector triggers disguise games, jealousy and a great deal of confusion.
Here, the Elector from the original becomes the theater director, the Electress the house director, who does everything she can to bring the operetta Der Vogelhändler to the stage despite the obstacles. This results in a great deal of chaos. Adam from Tyrol becomes the head entertainer in the operetta menagerie via detours, Christel von der Post almost has to marry a certain Stanislaus, who has briefly pretended to be the theater director, although she is actually in love with Adam.
You can see a theatre-within-a-theatre that becomes more gaudy and colorful from minute to minute and invites you to immerse yourself in the world of operetta.
