The collection of the Kunstverein
Since the Kunstverein zu Rostock was re-established on New Year's Eve 1991/92, its own collection has been an elementary part of the association's self-image alongside its permanent active exhibition activities. Through donations, occasional purchases and annual gifts, the collection, which for reasons of space is limited exclusively to works on paper and photography, has reached a considerable size and high artistic quality. In 2025, the collection received another significant addition with the donation of prints from "griffelkunst" by our long-standing member Adelheid Priebe and now comprises around 500 items.
In March 2018, the traditional artistic printing techniques of relief printing, intaglio printing, planographic printing, through-printing and their hybrid forms were officially entered in the Federal Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which has been maintained by the German UNESCO Commission since 2013, following a joint application by the BBK Berufsverband and the Museum für Druckkunst Leipzig. This year, the Kunstverein zu Rostock is once again responding to the call to take part in the "Day of Printmaking" initiative with an exhibition.
