Commemorative act on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the subcamp of Ravensbrück concentration camp
Every year on May 2, the people of Malchow and their guests commemorate the dark history of the island town at the memorial site in Lagerstraße with a commemoration of the liberation of the Malchow subcamp.
On May 2, 1945, 81 years ago now, over 1,000 women were finally liberated from their years of martyrdom. Crammed into wooden barracks, they were forced to live in life-destroying conditions every day and were forced to work in the Dynamit AG ammunition factory not far from the memorial site. A sculpture by artist Gerd Schneider is now located at the memorial site
, where roses are laid in memory of the victims of the Nazi regime.
