Jazz Concert
Europe gave us classical music. America gave us jazz. Combining the best of both worlds, countless “popular songs”—as catchy as they are elegant—emerged in the first half of the 20th century. Composers such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin thus laid the foundation for the classic canon of jazz, the Great American Songbook, which formed the core repertoire of great singers like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Mel Tormé. And then came the “Swinging Sixties” and turned the music world upside down. From the very beginning, pop music composers also inspired jazz. Are the Beatles jazz??
Cole Chandler, an old-school crooner with a resonant baritone, and pianist and bandleader Rainer Schnelle, a representative of the more modern jazz tradition, have devoted themselves heart and soul to this music. And the meeting of their very different styles creates something truly charming during their joint performances: the supposedly old songs take on a freshness that amazes and captivates.

Music Playing,” which celebrated a highly acclaimed premiere in October 2024 during a sold-out concert at the
Theater Itzehoe.
