Married for forty years—and Lore and Harry still know exactly how to drive each other up the wall. A love story with biting humor
Coffee and a Movie on Sunday Afternoon
Germany 2026, Director: Andreas Dresen, Screenplay: Laila Stieler, 111 minutes, FSK 6
Starring: Dagmar Manzel, Joachim Król, Anna von Seld, and others.
Harry is retired, enjoys drinking his wheat beer, and devotedly tends to his garden. Lore works as a librarian, loves books, and dreams that life has something else in store for her. They know each other’s weaknesses by heart. But when their daughter Julia wants to get married for the third time, their old certainties begin to waver. Behind the little jibes and big arguments, questions emerge that the couple has long suppressed: What has become of their dreams? And how much change is still possible after four decades?
Andreas Dresen and screenwriter Laila Stieler have adapted the bestseller by Elke Heidenreich and Bernd Schroeder for the screen with a keen sense of nuance. Dagmar Manzel and Joachim Król play off each other’s comedic moments without revealing the vulnerability of their characters. A film that laughs at love without ever making it seem ridiculous.
