A mother-daughter vacation on the Spanish coast near Almeria lacks lightness. Rose, the mother played by Fiona Shaw, suffers from a mysterious, possibly psychosomatic paralysis of her legs. She palpably uses her helplessness as leverage against her adult daughter Sofia, who has suspended her studies in order to accompany her mother to a last, very expensive
attempt at therapy. It is a tough trial of strength between the two women.
A third woman, the freedom-loving German hippie fairy Ingrid, who comes riding through the shimmering heat on a white horse like a mirage, brings movement into this deadlocked situation ...
