An impressive portrait that shows the great children's book author as a clever chronicler of the Second World War, a courageous feminist and a melancholy woman.
Germany 2025, Director: Wilfriede Hauke, Length: 98 minutes
with Karin Nyman, Annika Lindgren, Johan Palmberg and others.
"Those were unusual times," can be heard from off-screen right at the beginning. The voice belongs to Karin Nyman, Astrid Lindgren's daughter. She, granddaughter Annika Lindgren and great-grandson Johan Palmberg remember the woman they all three call Astrid, rummage through the diaries together, try to read between the lines, travel to the places Lindgren loved so much and also explore painful memories in the author's life. But most of the story is told by Astrid Lindgren herself through the actress Sofia Pekkari, who slips into her role. From the first day of the war in 1939 to the end, we follow her as she worries about the people in this war, about humanity in general, as she is plagued by a guilty conscience because her family is doing so well. Time and again, she demonstrates foresight.
