Health is mandatory; doubt is unwelcome. In Juli Zeh’s bestseller *Corpus Delicti*, the state has declared the health of its citizens to be its highest priority.
Germany 2026, Director: Lena Stahl, Runtime: 108 min., FSK 12
Starring: Hannah Herzsprung, Damian Hardung, Alexander Fehling, Christian Friedel, and others
Mia Holl is a scientist who trusts in the rationality of a system designed to prevent disease through comprehensive control. When her brother Moritz is accused of murder and ultimately broken by the justice system, her convictions begin to waver. Mia starts asking questions, thereby becoming a threat to the so-called “method” herself. For in a society that has a scientific explanation for everything, doubt—of all things—is not part of the plan.
Director Lena Stahl adapts Juli Zeh’s novel into a gripping futuristic thriller whose questions feel alarmingly relevant today. Hannah Herzsprung portrays Mia as an intelligent, initially conformist woman who gradually finds the courage to resist. Yet this is by no means just about health and government control; it’s about the freedom to make one’s own decisions—even when they seem unreasonable. How much security are we willing to sacrifice for our personal freedom? And who actually decides what’s good for us?
