Cantatas IV–VI, on December 12, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at St. Georgen Church in Parchim
“Fall down in thanksgiving, fall down in praise…”
...before the Most High’s throne of grace! From the naming of the child to the Wise Men from the East: Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (Cantatas 4–6) in concert.
On December 12, the choir “Cappella Vocale Parchim”—now Parchim’s premier ensemble for major oratorio concerts—under the direction of District Cantor Magdalena Szesny will perform the second part of Johann Sebastian Bach’s festive masterpiece: At St. George’s Church, starting at 5:00 p.m., Cantatas 4 through 6 of the Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) will be performed.
What could put us in the Christmas spirit more reliably and comfortably than the pleasure of this exquisite composition by a truly immortal composer? A large orchestra with winds, strings, and timpani; a top-notch ensemble of soloists; a highly motivated choir; and a church bathed in warm candlelight (and heated as much as possible)—truly, that is all it takes to bring the magic of the story of Jesus’ birth to life.
The challenging arias and the role of the Evangelist will be performed by: Malwine Nicolaus (soprano), Martha Urbaneck (alto), Joachim Duske (tenor/Evangelist), and Max Ehlert (bass).
Cantatas 4 through 6 offer a fascinating musical journey. From the intimate “Echo” aria to the majestic finale in the sixth movement, Bach unleashes tremendous dramatic power here!
