When high-level politics collides with the little absurdities of everyday life, top-notch cabaret entertainment is guaranteed—biting, musical, and wonderfully subtle.
Cabaret “Die Kaktusblüte”
“It’s Great to Be Dumb”

Times change—sometimes more, sometimes less—and so the Dresden cabaret troupe “Die Kaktusblüte” once again turns its attention to topics where high politics and everyday nonsense collide. Together with their pianist Janka Scheudeck, Friedemann Heinrich and Uwe Hänchen combine traditional cabaret with sophisticated entertainment.
The title of the program is certainly open to interpretation. There are things that are so nonsensical that they should simply be swept away, and there are things that are deliberately swept under the rug.
The art of getting along with one another has truly become an art form today, and so the program revolves, among other things, around education and school and the associated excesses in our society. True to the motto: If you’re open to all sides, you can’t be completely out of your mind.
How do students today answer the question, “What is democracy?” And is there even an answer to the question of whether, at age 67, a teacher still has to help the children cross the street—or whether the children then have to help the teacher?
The traditional “Stammtisch” is also a must, where this time you can find out what’s going on in schools and what would happen if girls and boys were taught separately.
The fact that Germany’s most popular vocal ensemble, the “Humbsdorfer Haubenlerchen,” turns out to be a group of career changers in the education sector due to the teacher shortage is sure to be a lot of fun—and not just for music lovers.
“Die Kaktusblüte” also tackles other thought-provoking questions, such as what to do with a federal government that can’t get anything right, and it offers the ultimate solution for how the state can get back all the aid money distributed in recent years.
As always, the whole thing is prickly and sharp-tongued, humorous and thought-provoking—simply a timely snapshot of the times, as everyday life and politics keep trying to outpace cabaret.
