Ornithological hike with Peter Boye from the Friends' Association. Bonus topic: The bird's head
On May 10, the third ornithological hike dedicated to songbirds will take place in Malchin. At this time of year, many bird species are already busy raising their broods. The first young birds are already on their way, while only a few migratory birds such as the oriole are still returning from their winter quarters. Nevertheless, the early morning hours are a hive of activity: A variety of chirping and trilling sounds can be heard from all corners and bushes. The birds use this time to assert their territory against their conspecifics and to teach their offspring - such as the nightingale - their own songs. The cuckoo, on the other hand, pursues a strategy of its own: with its constant calling, it tries to drive away other bird species in order to lay its egg in their nest.
Recognizing and classifying the different bird songs is a challenge for many nature enthusiasts. In order to better understand the special lifestyles and strategies of local bird species, the Mecklenburg Schweiz and Lake Kummerow Nature Park Association invites you to a special bird song hike. The tour will be led by experienced ornithologist Peter Boje from Teterow, who will impart his knowledge in a vivid manner.
One focus of the walk is on the bird's head. Peter Boje presents various specimens and explains the differences between the species and how the different beak shapes work. This gives participants a fascinating insight into the diversity of the local bird world.
The meeting point for the hike is on Sunday, May 10 at 6 a.m. in Malchin in the parking lot of the KKH / Wasserwerk der Zukunft. The route leads about three kilometers on foot through the surrounding area. It is recommended that you bring binoculars for birdwatching.
