Join-in dance evening for everyone. European traditional circle, chain, line and couple dances to beautiful live music.
PREMIERE! The newly founded band FOLK-TANZ-FUSION will be performing three times at the Mueßer Freilichtmuseum this summer. This refreshing dance band is made up of two new music formations from Mecklenburg. Together they play Balfolk.
Balfolk briefly explained: Bal - French for dance, folk stands for folkloristic. Balfolk is a "folk dance evening" with musicians (mostly) from the region. It is not about stage performances in traditional costumes, but about dancing together on the dance floor to beautiful dance songs from all over Europe. French dances are predominantly represented, as well as dances from England, Scandinavia, Germany, the Mediterranean region, Balkan countries... The traditional dances have deep regional roots, but are combined and further developed through many dance evenings and festivals throughout Europe. Since the 1970s, a lively and growing European dance movement has emerged.
Mueß is part of it, because these dances are about having fun and dancing together in a large circle or in a long line or as a long chain or as a couple. The dances are called Andro, Gavotte, Bourrrèe, Polska, Mazurka, Slängpolska, Chappelloise, Polka, Waltz, Schottisch... which are danced together with growing enthusiasm across the generations.
The traditional dance evenings in the Museumsdorf Mueß - mostly with Mecklenburg dance songs - have enjoyed great popularity for years. "Here, people still dance the way they used to: together to groovy live dance music, without sheet music, without technique and with a lot of heart and fun. No one is left standing alone on the sidelines here. The music and the dancers simply invite you to join in. I felt the same way years ago. That's how I went from being a dance grouch to an enthusiastic dancer," reports museum employee Fred-Ingo Pahl.
All the dances are participatory! Some are briefly explained. However, as there are always experienced dancers involved, there are always helping hands in the dance circle. All dances are suitable for young and old, couples and singles, beginners and advanced dancers. You don't have to be perfect to join in. It's all about fun and pure joie de vivre.
FOLK-TANZ-FUSION will be performing three times in summer 2026 at the Mueß Open-Air Museum on Saturdays from 7 to 10 p.m. on May 23, July 18 and August 8.
Admission: 15 EURO each time. Please bring your own food and drink.
