On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Austrian author Johanna Sebauer will be a guest at the Stralsund City Library to present her new novel *Popóm* (DuMont, July 2026). This is the second installment of the literary series “Authors on the Sund.”
Hendrik Popom had imagined his late twenties differently: his agency job is just plodding along, and his relationship is in crisis. Then suddenly this man shows up—Popóm. He’s almost twice as old, and yet Hendrik knows: This man is me. At times they interact like brothers, at others like rivals, and then again like mirror images who can’t stand each other. With wit, humor, and sensitivity, Johanna Sebauer explores the longing for closeness and the search for a life that is truly one’s own.
Johanna Sebauer, born in Vienna in 1988, is one of the most acclaimed young voices in German-language literature. Her debut, *Nincshof*, was awarded the Debut Prize at the Harbour Front Literature Festival, and her story “Das Gurkerl” won the 3sat Prize and the Audience Prize in Klagenfurt. “Sebauer proves that literature can be entertaining and funny, yet still meaningful,” stated the jury of the Bachmann Competition.
The “Autoren am Sund” series, founded by Stefanie Jarantowski, brings contemporary voices to the Baltic Sea in cooperation with the City Library. Stefanie Jarantowski will host the evening; a literary snack will round out the reading.
