After two books about her mother's family, Anne Berest dedicates the new chapter of her novel to the paternal, Breton branch of her family. Her great-great-grandfather already lived in Finistère. As in her successful novel "The Postcard", private and "big" history intermingle here, from the founding of the first farmers' cooperatives to May 1968, from the German occupation of a village in Léon to the destruction of the city of Brest.
Anne Berest, born in Paris in 1979, was an actress and director before beginning her impressive career as a writer. Her most recently published novel "The Postcard" was a literary coup - the book was nominated for all the major literary prizes in France, has been on the bestseller list since 2021 and has also become a perennial bestseller in Germany.
