An Invitation to a Lecture and Concert—2027 marks the anniversary year of the Schwerin composer Johann Wilhelm Hertel.
He shaped the music scene in Mecklenburg for more than four decades—and next year he would have turned 300: Johann Wilhelm Hertel, born in Eisenach and active in Schwerin as a “court and chapel composer,” is considered one of the most important representatives of the “sensitive style” of German pre-Classical music. On November 19, Stefan Fischer, a violinist with the Mecklenburg-Schwerin State Orchestra, will offer a knowledgeable and entertaining overview of the key milestones in Hertel’s life—from Eisenach to the court of Schwerin. And there will be music as well: Together with cellist Christina Lüdicke, long-time deputy director of the Schwerin Conservatory named after the composer, the two will bring Hertel’s music to life—live and up close. An evening full of stories and sounds centered on the namesake of the renowned Schwerin music school. You are cordially invited!
