Concert & finale
The concert Affäre Bela B. will take place on October 31 to mark the end of the Good morning world exhibition and the 2025 season at Kloster Saison. Martina Weidner (viola), Theo Jörgensmann (alto clarinet) and Ernst Deuker (contrabass clarinet) will perform at 7 pm in the courtroom of the monastery complex. With its expressiveness, the trio goes beyond the conventional framework of chamber music concerts, not least thanks to its special sound. While the bass clarinet has played an indispensable role in jazz since Eric Dolphy, the contrabass clarinet still has a special status. Ernst Deuker, once co-founder and long-time bassist of the cult band "Ideal", has been playing it since the 1980s not as a secondary instrument, but as the main one. Originally coming from the electric bass, he decided on this instrument under the impression of a concert with the jazz tuba player and occasional double bass clarinettist Howard Johnson. Martina Weidner, who has performed Béla Bartók's Concerto for Viola and Orchestra and Dimitri Shostakovich's Sonata for Viola and Piano, confidently bridges the gap between classical music and improvisation in this trio. Finally, Theo Jörgensmann, performing here primarily on alto clarinet, brings experience with clarinet ensembles ranging from his participation in the early Clarinet Summits, which from today's perspective can already be called legendary, to the present day. From this network of sounds, traditions and elective affinities, the Trio Affäre Béla B. develops its current music, understanding Bartók's work as an invitation and, in the most beautiful sense, as a provocation.
