Peter Tchaikovsky: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D major op. 35
Sergei Prokofiev:
Romeo and Juliet Suites No. 1 op. 64a + No. 2 op. 64bPeter Tchaikovsky's only violin concerto is one of the best-known works in the Romantic repertoire today, although it was initially considered unplayable. It was not until 1881 that Adolf Brodsky dared to premiere the work in Vienna, whereupon the composer dedicated the concerto to him. The music combines stirring sounds and emotional depth and requires excellent skill on the instrument.
The Latvian violinist Kristīne Balanas, who has developed from a street and rock musician into a world-famous violinist and has been praised by Times magazine for her breathtaking virtuosity, will be our guest. Her exceptional playing promises a gripping interpretation of this masterpiece.
Two suites from Prokofiev's dramatic ballet Romeo and Juliet, which tells the famous love story, will be performed, which the composer put together for the concert hall. The Venetian conductor Francesco Ommassini will conduct the three evenings.
