Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 in B minor op. 74 PathetiqueTchaikovsky'sfantasy overture Romeo and Juliet is considered to be his first fully-fledged orchestral composition and combines dramatic contrasts with old Russian sounds. Inspired by Shakespeare and encouraged by his musician friend Mili Balakirev, Tchaikovsky unfolded a colorful tone painting full of drama and melancholy.
The 6th and final symphony, the Pathétique, is one of his most personal works. Sketched within a few days in Klin, it was premiered in 1893, shortly before his sudden death. Its hidden program remains a mystery, but the emotional range extends from confidence and zest for action to love and disappointment to death and despair. The symphony ends unusually with a quiet, plaintive finale. A work that is still puzzling and moving today.
Mozart Camargo Guarnieri's Piano Concerto No. 2 combines Brazilian rhythms with orchestral power and brings the award-winning pianist Fabio Martino, known for his nuanced sensitivity and radical ecstasy (SZ), to Rostock. An evening of musical contrasts, impressive tonal colors and great emotions, which will be conducted by chief conductor Marcus Bosch.
