The 29th Tage Alter Musik Schwerin 2026 of the Musikverein M-V is dedicated to the biblical Mother of God Mary and is "... a devotional dedication in the most beautiful sounds of the world", as the artistic director of TAMS Christian Domke writes.
The 29th Tage Alter Musik Schwerin will open on Thursday , 5 March at 19:30 in the Oudry Hall of the reopened Staatliches Museum Schwerin with the concert "Ritornelli - Das farbenreiche Dazwischen". Six young musicians from Leipzig will perform early baroque works together with soprano Isabel Schicketanz.
On Friday, March 6, at 7:30 pm, the ensemble tiefsaits - this year's ensemble in residence - will perform in Schwerin's Schlosskirche. Works by Johann Sebastian Bach will be performed under the title "Bewegtes Herze".
Following a fine tradition, a children's and family program will also take place in 2026 in cooperation with the ATARAXIA music and art school. The music and dance students invite you to a varied and sonorous program under the motto "Marieken - Marie" on Saturday, 7 March 2026, from 11:00 - 14:15 in the Schlosskirche Schwerin. They will be musically supported by the Evangelical Children's Choir Schwerin and the Ensemble for Early Music tiefsaits from Leipzig. Guests young and old alike can look forward to three short concerts, join-in dancing, art activities and guided tours of the castle. The ATARAXIA Parents' Council will also be providing refreshments.
Two educational projects also form the framework of the 29th Schwerin Early Music Days:
On Wednesday, March 4, at 7:00 pm in the auditorium at the Fridericianum with Praeludium
and on Monday, March 9, at 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.in the Campus am Turm with the Encore- Children's Concert on Tour.
In collaboration with the association Kino unterm Dach e.V., the film "Maria" (2024, Pablo Larraín) will be shown for cineastes on Saturday, March 7, at 19:30 in the auditorium of the Volkshochschule. This cinematic biography of the singer Maria Callas was not released in German cinemas until 2025.
At the Musical Holy Mass"Meine Seele preist die Größe des Herrn" on Sunday, March 8, at 10:00 a.m. in the Catholic Provost Church of St. Anna , works from "Ein New Gesangbüchlin Geystlicher Lieder" (Leipzig 1537) will be performed.
The Marian Vespers by Claudio Monteverdi will conclude the 29th Tage Alter Musik Schwerin 2026 on Sunday, March 8, 18:00 in St. Paul's Church. The artistic director of the Tage Alter Musik Schwerin, KMD Christian Domke, will conduct the performance of this monumental work with soloists, the Schwerin Vocal Ensemble and the Orchestra of the 29th Tage Alter Musik Schwerin, featuring violins, viols, cornetts, theorbo, organ and trombones.
