At the end of September, thousands of cranes migrate over the Bodden landscape near Barth and Zingst. The NABU Crane Worlds event in Günz will highlight the fall migration with eight events scheduled between September 20 and 27. The program includes birdwatching along the coast, readings about cranes, and a field trip to conduct a population survey.
Every year in September, thousands of cranes gather to rest in the Bodden waters around Barth. NABU Crane Worlds in Günz is marking this occasion with the 28th Crane Week, a series of events spanning eight dates from September 20 to 27.
The event kicks off on Sunday, September 20, at 2 p.m. with the opening ceremony at the NABU Crane Worlds in Günz. Lectures and other activities will set the tone for the fall migration.
On Monday, September 21, at 4 p.m., Achim Strutzenberg from the NABU National Park Service, together with a staff member from Kranichwelten, will lead a coastal bird-watching tour on the Zingst West platform. The event is titled “Who Sleeps on the Große Kirr?”
On Tuesday, September 22, at 7 p.m., authors Silva and Mario Müller will read from “Kasimir the Coastal Crane” in Günz.
On Thursday, September 24, at 7 p.m., Susanne Mönke-Cordts and Karsten Peter will share stories about the bird under the title “Cranes, Myths, Legends, and Poems.”
On Friday, September 25, at 7 p.m., Gudrun and Rudi Bernhagen will read from “Fritz ist doof,” accompanied by live music. The text looks back on school days between 1924 and 1991.
On Saturday, September 26, at 5:00 p.m., a guided excursion to Bisdorf will begin at the bus stop of the former NABU Crane Center in Groß Mohrdorf. During the excursion, the crane population will be counted as part of the 33rd European BirdWatch Day.
On Sunday, September 27, at 8 p.m., Karsten Peter will present a musically accompanied slide show titled “In the Footsteps of the Crane” at the “Zu den zwei Birken” nature camp in Duvendiek.
