Living and growing up on the Dreesch
With the premiere of the Singspiel Hexenholz, a new version of the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel, the Mecklenburg State Theatre is bringing musical theater for everyone to Berliner Platz, in the middle of Dreesch. In the run-up to this, we as theater makers would like to get to know our temporary neighbourhood better and therefore invite you to talk about the realities of life on the Dreesch as part of the Reden hilft! series.
What will life be like here in 2026? And how are the children? Are they facing similar challenges to Hansel and Gretel and their poverty-stricken parents? Because yes, life is good on the Dreesch, but the truth is that Schwerin is one of the cities in Germany most affected by the phenomenon of poverty segregation. Hardly any other city has such a low social mix in terms of its individual districts.
We cordially invite you to tell us about the Dreesch and have also invited sociologist and inequality researcher André Knabe from the Rostock Institute for Social Research. We want to discuss with him and you: How is it going, and how can it be better? The event will be moderated by Hexenholz director Nina Gühlstorff.
