The Saga of the Nibelungs as a chamber play with puppets / A Schäfer -Thieme production
With Veronika Thieme and Pierre Schäfer
In the end, they are all dead: Siegfried, Gunther, Hagen, Kriemhild. But where is Brunhild?
As the last contemporary witness, she will remember, resurrecting the images of her past from the smoke and ashes. Some things are concealed, others retold, for her memory is incomplete. Brunhild's seemingly absurd thoughts repeatedly interrupt the tragic course of the plot, in which puppets are the protagonists. The stage: a mighty sword. On the "knife's edge", the Nibelungs struggle for truth, love and life, for betrayal, loyalty and death.
Fränkische Landeszeitung: ''Veronika Thieme and Pierre Schäfer swing back and forth between fate and slapstick, wit and madness, dialect and perjury. It's admirable how they do this with somnambulistic confidence, and fascinating to see how easily the audience can be transported into the other world.
