Wisentpark Island of Usedom
The bison enclosure is located on the southeastern edge of the Mellenthiner Heide and covers 6 hectares. About 1 hectare serves as grazing area for the animals, the food requirement is largely covered by supplementary feeding in the enclosure. The first breeding animals, which come from the national park on the neighboring island of Wollin, among others, were provided by the Ministry of the Environment of the Republic of Poland. A formerly native species has thus returned to Vorpommern - 650 years after its extinction by humans.
