Churches, Brick Gothic

The church in Dorf Mecklenburg is part of the Lutheran parish in the district of Nordwestmecklenburg.

The village church was built in the 14th century. It is a simple early Gothic brick building with a square tower. This carries a Romanesque rhombus helmet, which is unique in Mecklenburg. The nave has a length of three bays. The choir is polygonally closed. In the 17th and 19th centuries, several structural changes were made, including the transformation of the lanterns into ogival windows.

The interior of the church is one of the most important examples of sacral architecture in Mecklenburg. It was donated by the Mecklenburg-Schwerin ducal house in the 17th century.

South of the church was the "Miklingburg" or "Michelenburg", which was first mentioned in a document in 995. Today, the cemetery is located in its place.
