The town church in Stavenhagen was built in the 18th century. It is not known whether there was a church or chapel in the town's old castle until the Reformation. However, there is evidence of an older church from the 13th century and an extension to the old tower in 1601. There was a Burgpfaffen in the town until the Reformation.
The predecessor of today's church was a half-timbered building. The old church was severely damaged several times during the Thirty Years' War. Despite numerous renovation and renewal works, the condition of the building was unsatisfactory, so it was decided to build a new church.
It took a whole century before the funds were available for a new building. In 1774, the half-timbered church was demolished and the foundation stone for the current church was laid on July 16, 1774. The church was consecrated in 1782 under Pastor Knöchel. The church tower was not completed until 1790. It contains two bells.
The tower clock was fitted with a new movement in 1996.
