Monuments and Sights

The historic upper gate of the lock in Garwitz bears witness to the technical architecture of bygone times.

Right next to the Garwitz lock is a monument of a special kind: the gate of the old lock. It was built in 1894 and its wooden gate was renewed in 1989. During the basic reconstruction of the lock in 2000/2001, the upper gate of the lock was removed and placed above the lock. Here it is preserved as a technical monument and can be admired by visitors. Directly next to the upper gate is a rest area, which invites you to linger with a view of the bustling activity on the Müritz-Elde waterway.
