The Parchim City Museum presents with an impressive collection the history of the city from the first settlement to the 20th century.
Models of the former Slavic castle, the settlement Scarzyn, of the Fangel tower and of the municipal grain mill give a special impression about past times. You can also learn a lot of interesting facts about the life and work of important personalities connected with the town of Parchim, such as Behm, Kordshagen, Engel, Gillhoff, Griese, Hinstorff, Moltke, Reuter and Tarnow.
Also worth seeing is the vaulted cellar in the house, which is now accessible. In the museum courtyard, the diversity of the historical crafts and trades of the town of Parchim is presented, and for more in-depth research, the archive and library offer valuable literary treasures. You can also buy contemporary local literature as a souvenir of Parchim.
The museum also includes the Moltke Memorial, located at Lange Straße 28. In this house the Generalfeldmarschall Helmuth Graf von Moltke was born on 26.10.1800. Here the visitor gets an insight into the life and work of the personality who was so important for the military history. Entrance ticket to the museum entitles to visit the Moltke Memorial in the house where Count Moltke was born.
