The Old Synagogue is one of the few remaining synagogues in northeastern Germany.

In Krakow am See you will find one of the few synagogues in northeastern Germany still preserved in its original form, as well as a Jewish cemetery.

On December 12, 1866, the synagogue was solemnly consecrated by 110 members of the congregation.
In 1920 it was sold to the city because the Jewish community had greatly diminished. It was then used as a gymnasium for many years until, after extensive renovations, it was opened to the public in 1995.

Today it is the seat of the cultural department of the city of Krakow am See and the cultural association "Old Synagogue". Exhibitions, concerts and readings are held regularly in the former prayer hall.

Today, the abbey is managed by the Diakoniewerk, which looks after and supports people with mental and emotional disabilities. The workshop sells, among other things, candles and wooden articles.
