A natural idyll with history. The Lenorenwald forest in Klützer Winkel is a hidden natural paradise with unique flora and fauna.

The Lenorenwald forest in Klützer Winkel is a hidden natural paradise with unique flora and fauna. It owes its existence to a historical development: while German settlers cleared large parts of the original forests between 1200 and 1300, this part of the forest remained untouched. The forest owes its name to Countess Leonore von Bothmer, while the adjacent Bothmer Castle Park was given its landscape character by Count Hans Caspar von Bothmer.

Today, the Lenorenwald is a varied mixed deciduous forest with impressive giant trees, including redwoods that were probably planted by Count von Bothmer. These exotic trees give the forest a special atmosphere and emphasize its historical charm.

For nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts, the Lenorenwald offers easily accessible paths that invite you to take long walks or guided tours. We particularly recommend the guided tours led by Volker Jakobs, who provides fascinating insights into the history and ecology of the forest.
