The KRANORAMA at Lake Günzer is an innovative platform for observing cranes and wildlife. During the crane migration season, visitors can observe up to 4,000 cranes, thousands of geese and ducks, and numerous white-tailed eagles all at once, from morning until evening.
From the accessible observation station, you have a direct view of the Günzer Seewiesen, a European Bird Sanctuary and National Natural Heritage Site, which is being developed by Kranichschutz Deutschland in a manner consistent with nature conservation.
In the fall, the cranes can usually be seen from September through early November. They also make a brief stopover in the spring, especially in March. During the day, they can be found in harvested grain fields and especially in harvested cornfields, where they feed to build up the energy reserves needed for their onward flight. The birds are fed in the fields adjacent to the Kranorama, so it is very likely that you will spot cranes there. Please note: Under no circumstances should the cranes be disturbed, as undisturbed stopovers with ample feeding are vital for the survival of these large birds. Therefore, it’s best to wear muted-colored clothing and move quietly.
The Kranorama offers an audiovisual exhibition as well as a live broadcast from the field. Starting in April, the Kranorama takes a summer break before reopening for the fall migration. However, outdoor observation is still possible even outside of regular opening hours.
The station is staffed by employees and volunteer rangers from the international KRANICHWELTEN visitor center in Günz (located 300 meters away). However, since the Kranorama is primarily funded by donations, contributions are welcome.
The admission price includes a combined ticket for the Kranorama and access to KRANICHWELTEN (including the bistro, shop, and outdoor facilities). You can choose between a day pass and an annual pass. The price includes the photo pass for the Kranorama. Photographers who take pictures exclusively in the outdoor area of the Kranorama need a separate photo pass for €5.00.
