Oaks have been popular landmarks in Germany for centuries and are associated with certain events. This is also how the stately flowering oak found its name.
If you hike the circular trail around the Breiter Luzin or take the path by bike, you will pass this old witness of history. The hiking trail runs in parts along the old post road from Boitzenburg to Neustrelitz and leads past the so-called Blücher Oak at Lütte Lake. Its name is supposed to commemorate the flight of the Prussian Field Marshal Blücher from the approaching French forces. After the Battle of Jena in 1806, he is said to have passed the lake barrier here with his remaining troops. Even then, the venerable tree must have had considerable dimensions.
