The 36,000-hectare Feldberg Lake District Nature Park is located in the south-eastern part of the Mecklenburg Lake District between the towns of Fürstenberg, Woldegk and Neustrelitz. In addition to numerous lakes and kettle bogs, with a bit of luck you can admire sea eagles, ospreys and beavers here.
Unique to the Feldberg Lake District Nature Park is the oldest German beech forest - the "Holy Halls". It got its name from the tall trunks, which are reminiscent of Gothic church buildings. The landscape of the nature park was shaped by the last ice age. Together with the Brandenburg nature park "Uckermärkische Seen", it forms a single unit. The complete sequence of a glacial series can be found here - from the ground moraine and terminal moraine to the outwash and glacial valley. The latter now forms the Havel river system.
In addition to sea eagles and ospreys, the rare lesser spotted eagle (Pomeranian eagle) can also be found here. It is also the habitat of the common otter. It is the heraldic animal of the park and its presence is considered an indication of intact nature and clean waters. The glacial nature park with its many lakes is also famous for the poet Hans Fallada, who lived and worked in Carwitz.
