The Baaber Heide - a natural oasis rich in berries and mushrooms with beautiful hiking trails.
In the northern part of Mönchgut lies the Baaber Heide - a lowland formed by a spit. It stretches from the Mönchgraben to the foothills of a ridge that stretches between Göhren and the Having. It borders the Baltic Sea to the east. The campsites of Göhren and Baabe are located in the Baaber Heide. A large part of Baaber Heide originally belonged to the Baltic resort of Göhren before a territorial reform in the 1990s meant that Baaber Heide was assigned to the Baltic resort of Baabe. Baaber Heide is a popular place to unwind, especially for nature lovers and hikers. In the fall, you can find mushrooms such as chestnuts, porcini mushrooms and goat's lips on a hike. Blueberries can be found here in spring. The Baaber Heide was reforested in the middle of the 19th century and is now largely covered by the Mönchgut Forest. The so-called Herzogsgrab, a Neolithic megalithic tomb, is located on the southern edge of the Baaber Heide spit.
