Sleeping alcoves under the roof, old fruit trees, a colorful chicken coop—and right on the E9 long-distance hiking trail: The Alter Heuboden Inn in Jager is a place where hikers, pilgrims, and those seeking peace and quiet can take a deep breath.
Some places you don’t have to go looking for—they’re simply along the way. The Alter Heuboden Hostel in Jager is one such place. Located right on the European long-distance hiking trail E9 and the Via Baltica, not far from the Baltic Sea Coastal Bike Path, it welcomes everyone who is on foot or on a bike, somewhere between setting out and arriving.
Guests sleep in five cozy alcoves under the roof of the former hayloft—accommodating up to eight people. On the accessible ground floor, you’ll find a fully equipped communal kitchen for self-catering guests, as well as an additional sleeping area. The historic farm complex, with its large garden, old fruit trees, and a colorful chicken coop, invites you to pause and reflect—not as a backdrop, but as part of everyday life.
In the evening: silence. True silence. And when darkness falls over Sundhagen, the starry sky opens up in a way you’ve long since forgotten in the city.
Nearby is the small Jager Open Chapel—a magnet for pilgrims and anyone who wants to pause for a moment. For those who want to delve even deeper: Sabine Petters, an experienced pilgrimage coach, offers pilgrimage days and coaching sessions.
From here, you’ll continue on your way feeling rejuvenated—or simply stay another night.
